Raw Data vs Grouped Data<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Raw Data (Ungrouped):&nbsp;5, 7, 8, 5, 9, 7, 6, 8, 5, 7, 9, 6, 8, 7, 5<\/p>\n<p>Grouped Data:<br \/>\n5-6: 6 scores<br \/>\n7-8: 7 scores<br \/>\n9-10: 2 scores<\/p>\n<p>The grouped version loses some exact information (we don&#39;t know exactly how many 5s vs 6s) but gives a clearer overall picture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Class Intervals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A&nbsp;class interval&nbsp;is a range of values grouped together. Each interval has:<\/p>\n<p>Lower Class Limit:&nbsp;The smallest value that can belong to the interval<\/p>\n<p>Upper Class Limit:&nbsp;The largest value that can belong to the interval<\/p>\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong>&nbsp;In the interval 60-69<br \/>\nLower limit = 60, Upper limit = 69<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rules for Good Class Intervals:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Intervals must not overlap (60-69 and 70-79, not 60-70 and 70-80)<\/li>\n<li>Intervals should have the same width (size) throughout the table<\/li>\n<li>Choose 5 to 10 intervals for most data sets<\/li>\n<li>Every data value must fit into exactly one interval<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4. Class Size (Width)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The class size is the difference between the upper and lower limits of an interval, plus 1 (when dealing with whole numbers). Or more simply, the range covered by each interval.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Formula:<\/strong>&nbsp;Class Size = (Range of data) \/ (Number of intervals) &ndash; then round up to a convenient number<\/p>\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong>&nbsp;Data ranges from 20 to 79. Range = 59. With 6 intervals, class size &asymp; 59\/6 &asymp; 9.8 &rarr; round up to 10<\/p>\n<p>Intervals: 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79<\/p>\n<p>For continuous data (decimals):&nbsp;Class size = difference between lower limits of consecutive intervals. Example: 0-10, 10-20 has class size 10.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Tally Marks for Grouped Data<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Use tally marks to count how many data points fall into each interval. Each mark represents one data point.
