Standard unit of length is \u2018Meter\u2019 which is written in short as \u2018m\u2019.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1 m length is divided into 100 equal divisions. Each division is known as\u00a0centimetre\u00a0and written as \u2018cm\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, 1 m = 100 cm<\/p>\n<p>The largest unit that distance is measured in is kilometre. 1 km length is divided into 1000 equal divisions. Each division is termed as meter. Therefore, 1 km= 1000 m<\/p>\n<p>Let us look at the length conversion chart-<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-881\" src=\"https:\/\/kapdec.com\/help\/venture\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/i1-1-300x130.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"130\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to the length conversion charts, units of lengths and their equivalents are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1\u00a0kilometre\u00a0(km) = 10\u00a0Hectometres\u00a0(hm) = 1000 m<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>1\u00a0Hectometre\u00a0(hm) = 10\u00a0Decametres\u00a0(dam) = 100 m<\/li>\n<li>1\u00a0Decametre\u00a0(dam) = 10 Meters (m)<\/li>\n<li>1 Meter (m) = 10\u00a0Decimetres\u00a0(dm) = 100 cm = 1000 mm<\/li>\n<li>1\u00a0Decimetre\u00a0(dm) = 10\u00a0Centimetres\u00a0(cm)<\/li>\n<li>1\u00a0Decimetre\u00a0= 0.1 Meter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>1\u00a0Centimetre\u00a0(cm) = 10\u00a0Millimetres\u00a0(mm)<\/li>\n<li>1\u00a0Centimetre\u00a0= 0.01 Meter<\/li>\n<li>1\u00a0Millimetre\u00a0= 0.001 Meter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Note:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 mile = 1760 yards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>1 mile = 5280 feet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>1 yard = 3 feet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>1 foot = 12 inches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Conversion<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>While converting from a larger unit to a smaller unit, we multiply<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Example 1:\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0 km\u00a0\u2192\u00a0m<\/p>\n<p>1 km = 1000 m<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, 5 km = 5 x 1000 = 5000 m<\/p>\n<p><b>Example 2:\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0 m\u00a0\u2192\u00a0cm<\/p>\n<p>1 m = 100 cm<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, 4 m = 4 x 100 = 400 cm<\/p>\n<p><b>Example 3:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0hm\u00a0\u2192\u00a0dm<\/p>\n<p>1 hm = 1000 dm<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, 20 hm = 20 x 1000 = 20000 dm<\/p>\n<p><b>While converting from a smaller unit to a larger unit, we divide<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Example 1:<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 mm\u00a0\u2192\u00a0cm<\/p>\n<p>1 mm = 1\/10 cm<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, 20 mm = 20\/10 cm = 2 cm<\/p>\n<p><b>Example 2:\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0 dm\u00a0\u2192\u00a0dam<\/p>\n<p>1 dm = 1\/100 dam<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, 300 dm = 300\/100 dam = 3 dam<\/p>\n<p><b>Example 3:\u00a0\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0 cm\u00a0\u2192\u00a0m<\/p>\n<p>1 cm = 1\/100 m<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, 150 cm = 150\/100 m = 1.50 m<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Measurement of Length We measure small lengths in cm and mm and large lengths (i.e. distances) in m and km.
