The shopkeeper gives us articles and we make the payment to him of the total cost of these articles. The shopkeeper keeps a record of the articles we purchase.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-852\" src=\"https:\/\/kapdec.com\/help\/venture\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/blob.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"179\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Whenever we buy\u00a0something, the shopkeeper gives us\u00a0a\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\n<b>slip of paper on which\u00a0he\/shenotes down the requirements of\u00a0the\u00a0customer or buyer and calculates the total cost of items purchased. This statement or\u00a0the\u00a0slip of paper\u00a0is called a \u201cBILL OF PURCHASE\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For example, your grocery purchased from a local grocery shop and shopkeeper delivers you all the groceries and gives you a total cost of your purchase and Your \u201cBILL of Purchase\u201d\u00a0 amounts to a total of\u00a0$ 199.50<\/p>\n<p>The customer reads the\u00a0\u201cBill of Purchase\u201d\u00a0carefully. He also checks the\u00a0total amount shown in the itemized statement (a.k.a) \u201cBill of Purchase\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In our daily life, we receive a variety of Bills of purchase,\u00a0for example\u00a0<b>for telephone,\u00a0cooking gas, electricity etc.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>A Bill\u00a0of Purchase\u00a0lets the customer check the shopkeeper\u2019s calculations and verify if he\/she is getting the required quantities at the price listed.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Uses of Bill\u00a0of Purchase\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A shopkeeper can keep a track on the day sales.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>2.The customer can cross check the prices items purchased and their total cost.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>In case of any problem, the customer can change the item easily by showing the bill.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Format of a Blank Bill\u00a0of Purchase<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-853\" src=\"https:\/\/kapdec.com\/help\/venture\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/blob-4-300x173.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"173\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Let us look at few examples to understand the making of a\u00a0Bill\u00a0of Purchase\u00a0better-<\/p>\n<p><b>Examples-<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Example 1.<\/b>\u202fRia from Sarad Bazar Delhi \u2013 110006 bought the following items from Agarwal Provisions Store Sadar Bazar Delhi \u2013 110006 on 06.05.2015.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>5 kg rice at the rate of Rs. 30.00 per kg.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>3 kg\u00a0urad\u00a0dal at the rate of Rs. 36.00 per kg<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>5 kg wheat flour at the rate of Rs. 9.00 per kg<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>2 litre mustard oil at the rate of Rs. 45.00 per litre<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>2 packets of surf at the rate of Rs. 30.00 per packet.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Prepare a bill for the above items.<\/p>\n<p><b>Solution:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Preparing a Bill\u00a0of Purchase:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Check the steps:<\/p>\n<p>(i)\u00a0Write the name of the shop, its location, phone number, date of purchase of item.<\/p>\n<p>(ii)\u00a0Make 5 columns:\u202f Item number, name of the article, its quantity, rate of each article and the amount of the article.<\/p>\n<p>(iii)Enter the name of item, rate and quantity in bill.<\/p>\n<p>(iv)We can calculate the amount for each item by multiplying the rate by quantity.<\/p>\n<p>(v)\u00a0We find the total cost of item purchased.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the Bill of Purchase\u00a0is prepared as under<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-849\" src=\"https:\/\/kapdec.com\/help\/venture\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/blob-1-300x166.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"166\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Example\u00a02.\u202fCheck the correctness of the following bill\u00a0of purchase:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Ron purchased some vegetables from ABC Store, G.t. Road, Aligarh. The bill given by store is shown below:<\/p>\n<p><b>Solution:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-851\" src=\"https:\/\/kapdec.com\/help\/venture\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/blob-2-300x178.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"178\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Checking the correctness of the bill:<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cost of 10 kg of potatoes @ $ 2.00 = 10 \u00d7 2 = $ 20.00<\/li>\n<li>Cost of 5 kg of onion @ $ 3.00 = 5 \u00d7 3 = $ 15.00<\/li>\n<li>Cost of 5 kg of beans @ $ 15.00 = 5 \u00d7 15 = $ 75.00<\/li>\n<li>Cost of 10 kg of carrot @ $ 3.00 = 10 \u00d7 3 = $ 30.00<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Total = $ 140.00<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the mistakes in the bill are:<\/p>\n<p>(a) At S. No. 2, the correct amount is $ 15.00<\/p>\n<p>(b) At S. No. 4, the correct amount is $ 30.00<\/p>\n<p>(c) In total the correct amount is $ 140.00<\/p>\n<p><b>Various Definitions of Bill\u00a0:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Term Bill is used\u00a0interchangeable\u00a0in various contexts. A user has to keep in mind what is being discussed and the context to drive a meaningful deduction from the word \u201cbill\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In\u00a0North America,\u00a0the term \u201cBILL\u201d is used to reflect a currency. Such as Bill of $ 20, Bill of $ 5 etc.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0term\u00a0\u201cBill\u201d\u00a0is also used in law and order such as a \u201cDraft of a proposed law presented to parliament for approval\u201d.
